Itinerary
Day 1
Hobart to Queenstown
Leaving Hobart (nipaluna), we begin our journey into Tasmania’s untamed western wilderness. Our first stop is Russell Falls, a multi-tiered cascade tucked within the ancient rainforests of Mount Field National Park, part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
Climbing into alpine country, we pause at Lake St Clair, Australia’s deepest freshwater lake, before continuing through the sweeping Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. Along the way, we stretch our legs on short walks to the Franklin River and Nelson Falls, surrounded by rainforest and the scent of moss and myrtle.
As we descend towards the West Coast, vast buttongrass plains give way to dramatic mountain views. We take in the raw beauty of Horsetail Falls, Mount Lyell, and the striking Iron Blow Lookout before arriving in Queenstown, a former mining town that still wears its frontier edge.
Tonight, we share a group dinner and settle in for the evening surrounded by the rugged charm of Tasmania’s west.
Overnight: Queenstown (Dinner included)
Day 2
Gordon River Cruise to Tullah
This morning begins in the harbourside village of Strahan, where we step aboard a cruise to explore the majestic Gordon River.
Gliding through the still waters of Macquarie Harbour, we pass through the narrow and storied entrance known as Hells Gates, before heading deep into the UNESCO World Heritage rainforest. A guided boardwalk takes you beneath the canopy of ancient trees, offering time to connect with this extraordinary landscape.
We also visit Sarah Island, once one of the harshest convict settlements in Australia, where a guided tour brings its dramatic history to life.
Lunch is served aboard the ship, featuring regional Tasmanian produce. Back in Strahan, we visit a Huon pine sawmill to gain insight into the craftsmanship and history of this quiet coastal town.
Later, we travel north through spectacular wilderness to the lakeside village of Tullah. On a clear day, the jagged peaks of Mount Murchison dominate the horizon.
We end the day with a relaxed group dinner and a stay in a peaceful chalet on the shores of Lake Rosebery.
Overnight: Tullah (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)
Day 3
Tullah to the North West Coast
We begin the day heading north through the forests and valleys of the West Coast. Our first stop is the town of Waratah, where cascading falls tumble right beside the road in a quiet, scenic setting.
Continuing through the winding beauty of Hellyer Gorge, we reach the dramatic coastline of Tasmania’s north west. In Stanley, you’ll have the chance to view The Nut, an ancient volcanic formation that rises steeply from the sea, offering panoramic views of the surrounding coast.
From there, we journey even further to one of Tasmania’s most remote and stirring places, Arthur River, known as The Edge of the World. Here, the windswept coastline and wild seas speak to the raw power of nature. This is part of the Tarkine (takayna), one of the largest temperate rainforests in the world, and a place of deep cultural significance to Tasmanian Aboriginal people (palawa).
We end the day with a shared dinner and a restful night at Tall Timbers, our accommodation nestled in this dramatic and storied region.
Overnight: Tall Timbers (Breakfast and Dinner included)
Day 4
Tarkine to Devonport
Today we spend time in one of Tasmania’s most extraordinary environments, the Tarkine (takayna). This ancient rainforest is the second largest cool temperate rainforest on Earth and holds stories written in both landscape and culture. It is home to rare and living relics of plant and animal life, as well as sites of deep significance to the palawa, Tasmania’s First Peoples.
We visit Sumac Lookout, where sweeping views stretch across forest canopies and the winding Arthur River, and stop at Trowutta Arch, a striking natural formation carved by time and water.
Returning to the coast, we follow the shoreline eastward, pausing at seaside towns and lookout points along the way. Highlights include the white sands of Boat Harbour, the rich farming landscapes around Table Cape, and the welcoming coastal town of Penguin.
We arrive in Devonport this evening, where a group dinner awaits. The rest of the night is yours to relax or explore at your own pace.
Overnight: Devonport (Breakfast and Dinner included)
Day 5
Cradle Mountain to Launceston
Today we explore one of Tasmania’s most iconic natural areas, Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair National Park. With alpine peaks, glacial lakes and ancient forest, this is a place of striking contrasts and quiet beauty.
Your guide will help you choose how best to experience the park, with a range of walk options suited to different interests and energy levels. Keep an eye out for wombats at Ronny Creek, or if you are up for a longer walk, the Dove Lake Circuit offers a rewarding loop through alpine landscapes beneath the peaks of Cradle Mountain. This six kilometre walk is considered one of the best in Tasmania.
On our way to Launceston, we stop in the town of Sheffield, known for its colourful outdoor murals that celebrate local history and creativity.
We arrive in Launceston, Australia’s second oldest city, in the evening. You are free to explore at your own pace or relax as you choose.
Overnight: Launceston (Breakfast included)
Day 6
Launceston to Bicheno
We begin the day with a visit to Cataract Gorge, a natural haven just minutes from Launceston’s city centre. This scenic reserve is a peaceful place to walk, take in the views, and spot wallabies in the early light.
From there, we journey to Tasmania’s East Coast, stopping in the fishing town of St Helens for lunch.
In the afternoon, we explore the stunning coastline of the Bay of Fires (larapuna). Known for its white sand, clear water and distinctive orange lichen-covered rocks, this region offers some of the most pristine beachscapes in Tasmania. There is time to slow down, walk the shoreline and simply take it in.
We arrive in Bicheno by evening, a friendly coastal town known for its relaxed atmosphere and resident little penguins. After dinner, you might choose to visit the blowhole, or walk up to the lookout for sweeping views over the Tasman Sea.
Overnight: Bicheno (Breakfast and Dinner included)
Day 7:
Freycinet National Park to Hobart
This morning is spent exploring Freycinet National Park, a place where rugged pink granite mountains meet secluded bays and clear blue sea. From Honeymoon Bay, take in views of the Hazards, the dramatic range that defines this part of the coast.
We walk to the Wineglass Bay Lookout, one of Tasmania’s most iconic viewpoints. From here, you will see the perfect curve of white sand and turquoise water that makes this beach world famous.
At Cape Tourville, a short boardwalk offers panoramic views of the coastline and the Tasman Sea beyond.
In the afternoon, we return to Hobart via the scenic Great Eastern Drive.
Back in the city for your final evening, take the opportunity to enjoy one of Hobart’s excellent restaurants or reflect on the journey with a relaxed night out.
Overnight: Hobart
Day 8
Tasmanian Devils, Richmond and Wellington Park
This morning we visit Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, a special place where you can meet some of Tasmania’s most iconic animals up close. You’ll have the chance to see Tasmanian devils, wombats, kangaroos, quolls and native birds, while learning about the sanctuary’s important conservation work.
From there, we head to the colonial village of Richmond, known for its beautifully preserved heritage buildings and convict-era history. Stroll across the Richmond Bridge, the oldest stone bridge in Australia still in use, and enjoy the charm of this quiet town.
We return to Hobart via the Coal River Valley, a region known for its vineyards and rolling countryside.
This afternoon, we share some of our favourite places in Wellington Park, the natural playground that surrounds Mount Wellington (kunanyi). Locals simply call it “The Mountain”. With its fern glades, tall eucalypt forests, soaring dolerite cliffs and sweeping views, this reserve offers a variety of short trails and lookouts.
This evening, relax and enjoy one of Hobart’s historic pubs or cosy restaurants.
Overnight: Hobart (Breakfast included)
Day 9:
Bruny Island
Today we journey to Bruny Island, a place where wild landscapes, coastal views and local flavours come together. After a short drive from Hobart, we cross the D’Entrecasteaux Channel by ferry and begin exploring.
At The Neck, the narrow isthmus that connects North and South Bruny, we climb the steps to Truganini Lookout for sweeping views across both sides of the island.
We continue to South Bruny National Park to experience the windswept coast at Cape Bruny Lighthouse, a striking historic site set above the cliffs. In Adventure Bay, we keep an eye out for the island’s resident white wallabies, known for their distinctive appearance and elusive nature.
Before returning to the mainland, we visit a selection of Bruny’s local producers, with the chance to sample oysters, artisan cheeses, chocolate and craft beers, all made on the island.
Back in Hobart, you may choose to take a late afternoon stroll through the Salamanca precinct and along the historic waterfront.
Overnight: Hobart (Breakfast included)
Day 10
Port Arthur Historic Site and the Tasman Peninsula
We close the journey with a day of powerful stories and dramatic scenery on the Tasman Peninsula.
At the Port Arthur Historic Site, you’ll step into one of Australia’s most significant World Heritage locations. Once a convict settlement in the 1800s, today it stands as an open air museum where you can wander among preserved ruins, colonial gardens and restored buildings. A short harbour cruise offers a different perspective on this striking and sobering site.
Along the way, we explore several natural landmarks that make this coastline so spectacular. Stops include Pirates Bay Lookout, the intricate rock patterns of the Tessellated Pavement, and the sea-carved formations of Tasman Arch and Devils Kitchen.
We return to Hobart in the afternoon, where your Tasmanian adventure comes to an end.
