Day 1
PORT ARTHUR HISTORIC SITE AND TASMAN PENINSULA
Departing Hobart/nipaluna, spend the entire day exploring the breathtaking Tasman Peninsula. Tasman National Park has some of the world’s tallest sea cliffs and we’ll explore several sites in the park such as Waterfall Bay, Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen. Next, we’ll discover the UNESCO World Heritage Area of Port Arthur Historic Site. Here we’ll walk amongst the vast grounds of this open-air museum and learn about Australia’s best preserved convict settlement, before returning to Hobart this evening.
Overnight: Hobart
Day 2
HOBART > FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK
As we venture north along the Great Eastern Drive, the highlight today is Tassie’s East Coast jewel, Freycinet National Park. At Honeymoon Bay we will gaze at the pink granite peaks of the Hazards mountains. Then, choose between a challenging walk to the summit of Mount Amos for incredible views across the park, or climb to the Lookout for lovely views to the iconic Wineglass Bay. You may wish to continue down to the beach and walk along its white sands and turquoise waters. At Cape Tourville, we’ll enjoy stunning scenery across Freycinet and across the Tasman Sea. Tonight, we’ll stay in the coastal town of Bicheno, where little penguins emerge from the sea at nighttime.
Overnight: Bicheno
Day 3
BICHENO > LAUNCESTON
From Bicheno we travel north to the incredible Bay of Fires/larapuna. This is a place of pristine beauty and significance to Tasmanian aboriginal people/palawa. Explore the coastline of pristine sands, vivid orange boulders and clear waters. After stopping for lunch in St Helens we’ll head inland to see the giant tree ferns at St Columba Falls. We’ll spend tonight in historic Launceston, one of Australia’s oldest cities.
Overnight: Launceston
Day 4
CRADLE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK
Get ready for an exciting day in the mountains. The alpine landscapes within Cradle Mountain National Park are a hiker’s dream come true. Choose a challenging walk to Marion’s Lookout or enjoy a less strenuous loop around glacial-carved Dove Lake. We’ll also look for wombats at Ronny Creek. Return to Launceston via the Town of Murals, Sheffield.
Overnight: Launceston
Day 5
LAUNCESTON > HOBART
Visit the scenic Cataract Gorge, just minutes from downtown Launceston. We’ll enjoy a short walk and keep a look out for wallabies along the river. We’ll travel south along the midlands heritage highway, stopping at historic Ross. We’ll meet Tasmanian devils at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, a conservation and wildlife rescue centre which is home to many other native species. Returning to Hobart via the colonial village of Richmond, our adventure concludes.
