Consideration of others go a long way
Group Tour Etiquette: How to Be a Considerate Traveller in Tasmania.
We often receive feedback from guests about how much they enjoyed meeting and sharing the experience with like-minded people of varied ages and backgrounds. We love that kind of feedback. Sharing is a key word – not everything is shared, of course, with ample opportunity to enjoy peaceful moments alone or with your travel companion while on walks, or at meal times. However, by virtue of travelling hundreds of kms together in a vehicle around the island, we do spend a lot of time as a group over several days. To ensure everyone has the best possible experience, a bit of thoughtful etiquette goes a long way. We’re sure you’ll agree, most of this is common sense!
1. Remember this is a Group Tour, not a Private One
Group tours offer a balance between shared experiences and your own sense of adventure. Keep an open mind, be willing to participate, and remember that everyone — including you — is there to enjoy the day. Being adaptable and positive not only benefits you but also creates a happier atmosphere for the whole group.
2. Seat Assignments: We’re All in This Together
We understand that everyone wants a good view — especially on scenic drives. However, out of consideration for all guests, our policy is that front seats or any other seats, cannot be reserved by individuals for any reason.
We do not guarantee any seats and ask guests to respectfully rotate seats regularly during the tour. We appreciate that motion sickness can be a common travel ailment, and should a passenger know this to affect them, we recommend preventative medications be used on those travel days.
3. Respect Others’ Space and Time
Your fellow travellers come from all walks of life. Treat everyone with courtesy:
- Be punctual. Tours run to a schedule, and late arrivals can delay the whole group.
- Keep noise at a reasonable level on board so others can relax or listen to our guide.
- Be mindful of personal space during breaks, at stops, and while walking.
A friendly smile and a simple “excuse me” go a long way.
4. Listen to Your Guide
Your guide is there to keep the tour running smoothly, provide insights, keep you safe, and answer questions. They’ll share important information about timings, access, photography spots, and safety.
Respect the guide’s instructions — they’re based on experience and designed to make your day seamless.
5. Look After Your Belongings
In group situations, personal items can easily be misplaced or accidentally taken. Keep your belongings organised and labelled. Respect shared spaces — if you brought something onboard (like a reusable bottle or snack), take it with you and don’t leave rubbish behind.
6. Be Kind — It Matters
Remember that kindness always travels well. Smile at someone who looks unsure, offer help if someone is struggling with luggage, and be patient when plans change due to weather or conditions.
Your positive attitude turns good tours into unforgettable ones.
7. Feedback Is Welcome
If something isn’t working for you, let us know — respectfully. Our team wants to hear from you so we can continually improve our tours. Constructive feedback helps everyone.
In Summary
Travel is about discovery — of new places, new cultures, and new people. When everyone treats each other with respect, kindness, and a sense of fun, every trip becomes richer.
